Abstract

SUMMARY

Aim. The purpose of this study is development of the algorithm for optimal treatment method for the identihed
diabetic maculopathy types based on the data of spectral optical coherence tomography (SOCT).

Material and methods
This research work considered 269 eyes of 200 patients with diabetic macular edema
(DME). Patients were divided into 4 groups: group I included 89 eyes of 57 patients with cystoid macular edema
(CME), group II - 84 eyes of 62 patients with CME accompanied by the serous detachment of the neuroepithelial
layer, group III - 44 eyes of 32 patients accompanied by epiretinal membrane (ERM), Group IV - 52 eyes of
49 patients with CME, accompanied by vitreomacular traction (VMT). For the assessment of the feasibility of
selected surgical method based on the data from SOCT, functional indicators of eye and data of macular thickness
were studied for 18 operated patients (18 eyes) with CME complicated by VMT. Data obtained before the surgery
and 3-10 days 1, 3 and 6 months after the surgery were compared.

Results and discussions
Thus, timely and correct selected surgical treatment CME complicated by VMT, gave
an opportunity to prevent from the inevitable loss of vision and to keep the satisfactory functional results. For the
identihed CME types using SOCT, the algorithm for optimal treatment method was developed.
