Abstract

SUMMARY

Estimates of the number of people worldwide with refractive error range from about 800 million to 2.3 billion. No prevalence data are available from the World Health Organization or from any other source relating to very large populations such as groups of nations, or whole countries.

The aim of our investigation was determination of prevalence of refractive effors in children aged 5-15 years living in Sumgait city.

Results and discussions
According to the data of 3091 examined children aged 5-15 years of old, among boys and girls prevalence increases from hyperopic refraction to myopic refraction and astigmatism. There was significant difference in the prevalence of anisometropia between boys and girls. Boys were more affected than girls. Frequency of esotropia was higher than exotropia with no gender variance.
