Abstract

SUMMARY

The article gives the basic, most important principles in the diagnosis and treatment of common types of
infectious keratitis (bacterial, viral, fungal and acanthamoebic). Etiofactors, objective and subjective symptoms,
instrumental and laboratory studies, and keratitis risk factors are described in detail. The main attention in the
description of viral lesions of the cornea is given to herpetic (HSV-1) diseases. The epidemiology, classification
and prevention of infectious diseases of the cornea are briefly and concisely. The main differential diagnostic
criteria for infectious lesions of the cornea are noted, for the convenience of readers this is given in the table. The
symptomatic and etiotropic treatment, both local and general, is described in detail, subconjunctival administration
of exact doses of antibiotics is displayed in a table.
