Abstract

SUMMARY

The article focuses on the current research in the held of treatment of such complex diseases as proliferative
diabetic retinopathy and exudative age-related macular degeneration.
The role of antiangiogenic therapy in the treatment of these diseases is emphasized.
There are data from clinical trials of anti-VEGF drugs presented, among which the most accessible are Macugen,
Lucentis and Avastin. It has been shown that antiangiogenic agents do not always yield positive results. The effects
may be short, whichjustihes the search and development of new ways of antiangiogenic therapy.
All this suggests that new treatment options, which are on the stage of clinical trials, may exceed current anti-
VEGF drugs.
