Abstract

SUMMARY

Purpose: To assess clinical results using of conjunctival autograft at treatment of recurrent pterigium.

Methods
During the period of 2008-2011 21 eyes with recurrent pterigium were treated using conjunctival
autograft. Adjuvant mitomycin C was used in 2 cases.
Patients were followed up 6 months after operation. The main outcome measurement was recurrence rate after
surgery.

Results
The recurrence rate after surgery with conjunctival autograft was 14.2% (3 eyes) at 6 months (9.5%-2
eyes at 3 months).
Complications included transient increase at intraocular pressure (one eye-4.76%) and pyodenic granuloma
(one eye -4.76%).

Conclusions
Conjunctival autograft had relatively low recurrence rate and can be considered to be the first
choice for treatment at recurrent pterigium.
