Abstract

SUMMARY

Vitreofoveolar traction syndrome is a chronic condition associated with incomplete posterior vitreous detachment and preretinal proliferation, which cause traction deformation and mechanical tension of the macula. Two clinical cases were described in this article. In both cases, spontaneous development of vitreofoveolar traction was confrmed with the help of optical coherence tomography. As clinical cases have shown, the possibility of independent detachment of the posterior hyaloid membrane leads to the elimination of vitreomacular traction and the improvement of the vitreomacular interface during the observation period and, therefore, reduces the need for urgent surgical intervention.
